Peanut Butter Pupcakes

Treat your pup with these yummy healthy cupcakes made with peanut butter and apples. We use these pupcakes in our group class graduation ceremonies. My students love em and we all have a fun time celebrating our success!

Recipe

Yield: 2 cupcakes

Single Serving Canine Friendly Cupcake

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 20 minutes

Total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients cake

1/2 small or medium apple, diced into small pieces (do not use the core or seeds of the apple, for safety)

3 tablespoons of peanut butter (add more if desired)

1 whole egg

1/2 teaspoon baking powder (optional)

Ingredients frosting / topping (ingredients are estimated)

2 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

1/4 cup creamy peanut butter (I buy sugar free and organic peanut butter from sprouts)

Bacon bits (I buy these at sprouts and freeze what I don’t use and take when I need each time)

Prepared Frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C / 350 degrees F

  2. In a bowl, mix together all of the ingredients until combined

  3. Line or lightly grease two holes in a cupcake tin or small ramekin. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pans.

  4. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  5. Allow the cupcake to cool completely. You can leave it as is or add frosting and bacon bits

  6. While cupcake is baking, use a handheld electric mixer for the frosting or mix by hand but I like to get it really creamy

  7. Next I scoop the frosting into a pastry bag and decorative tip of my choosing

  8. Wait for cupcake(s) to cool completely and decorate as desired and garnish with bacon bits as desired

Notes:

  1. Make sure peanut butter is xylitol, sugar and artificial sweetener free as it can be toxic to dogs.

  2. Make sure to remove all apple seeds and discard the core of the apple. The seeds contain a small amount of cyanide which is not likely to cause harm to your dog but it is better to avoid the potential risk.

  3. For a group of dogs, I add more ingredients as needed and sometimes I play around with how much peanut butter I use. Have fun with it!
